TL;DR
15 AI visibility tools, ranked by how they show up on G2, Capterra, SourceForge, and Trustpilot. The established SEO suites (SE Ranking, Ahrefs, Semrush) have strong review presence but split sentiment - professional platforms love them, Trustpilot surfaces billing friction. The AI-native tools (Otterly, Peec, Gauge) are still building their profiles, often starting on SourceForge. We put ourselves on the list too. Three G2 reviews is not a visibility posture - it's a start.

A whole new market showed up in the last eighteen months. Tools that track whether AI mentions your brand, tools that optimize your content for AI citation, tools that score your "AI visibility" on a scale of 1 to 100. G2 inaugurated a dedicated AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) category - 207 solutions listed when we checked. Over 40 are specifically focused on AI visibility tracking by our count, and the number keeps growing.
Today, the recipe for showing up in AI recommendations looks straightforward - Reddit mentions, listicles, affiliate blog features, some YouTube presence. And it works. AI systems are pulling from all of these sources right now and it's easy to start showing up.
Directories and review platforms already work at this level - AI systems cite G2, Capterra, and SourceForge listings when recommending software, because the data is structured, categorized, and maintained. Easy to parse. But the same platforms also hold a deeper signal: what verified users actually say about the product, and whether the company pays attention. Today, a savvy buyer asks the right follow-up questions to push AI into that layer. Tomorrow, AI won't need the follow-up. Early Google rewarded keyword density, then shifted to authority signals. Early app stores rewarded keyword stuffing, then shifted to ratings and reviews.
We call this visibility posture - how a company looks when someone (or something) checks below the surface.
These tools help companies track and improve their AI search visibility. We were curious about their own visibility posture - what you find when you check their review platform presence. For each tool, we checked their profiles on G2, Capterra, SourceForge, and Trustpilot and noted ratings, review volume, user sentiment, and whether the vendor appears to engage with reviewers. We grouped tools into three tiers: strong (present on most platforms with substantial review volume), early (present but building), and minimal (limited or no presence).
Strong Visibility Posture
SE Ranking - AI Visibility
Starting from ~$65/month (part of suite) | monitoring
AI citation tracking within a broader SEO platform.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.8/5 on G2 (more than 1,400 reviews), 4.7/5 on Capterra (close to 300 reviews), listed on SourceForge, 4.3/5 on Trustpilot (close to 700 reviews). G2 Leader in 15 categories. From what we can see, SE Ranking shows what engaged review management looks like - the team appears to respond to reviews across all platforms, including negative ones on Trustpilot. Users consistently praise affordability relative to Ahrefs and Semrush, and support responsiveness comes up in nearly every positive review. The Trustpilot score (4.3) is notably higher than both Ahrefs and Semrush - from the review themes, this appears to reflect a cleaner billing and cancellation experience.
G2 | Capterra | Trustpilot
Frase
Starting from $15/month (Solo) / $45/month (Basic) | optimization
Research and content optimization for the kind of question-answering content that AI systems pull from. Pre-dates the AI visibility boom by years, but the approach - structuring content around questions with clear, comprehensive answers - maps to what generative engine optimization (GEO) requires.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.8/5 on both G2 (close to 300 reviews) and Capterra (more than 330 reviews), 5.0/5 on SourceForge, 4.1/5 on Trustpilot. 98% recommend on G2. Reviewers report measurable time savings on content research - one agency reviewer documented 180 hours per month saved. The question discovery feature (pulling from Reddit, Quora, People Also Ask) gets specific praise for finding content gaps competitors miss. The Trustpilot dip (4.1 vs 4.8 elsewhere) surfaces a different story: auto-billing complaints and a 5-day refund window that catches users off guard. The Frase team does respond to reviews and has resolved individual disputes, but the billing pattern keeps appearing.
G2 | Capterra | Trustpilot
Surfer SEO
Starting from $99/month ($79/month annual) | optimization
Traditional SEO content optimization adding AI-specific features - structure analysis, entity coverage, topical completeness. Close to 90% of its G2 reviews are five-star.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.8/5 on G2 (more than 530 reviews), 4.9/5 on Capterra (more than 400 reviews), listed on SourceForge, 4.4/5 on Trustpilot (more than 210 reviews). The content editor and SERP analyzer are consistently praised on G2 and Capterra - reviewers report measurable organic traffic improvements. But sophisticated users note that the SERP analyzer assumes correlation equals importance, and several report that manual SERP review is more valuable than the automated analysis. Pricing is the main barrier: prohibitive for freelancers, and the credit system means even paid plans feel limiting. On Trustpilot, the pattern shifts to billing complaints - charges after cancellation, difficulty removing payment methods.
G2 | Capterra | Trustpilot
Writesonic
Starting from $49/month | optimization
AI content creation plus visibility tracking in one platform. The largest review volume of any tool in this research.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.7/5 on G2 (more than 2,200 reviews), 4.8/5 on Capterra (more than 2,100 reviews), 5.0/5 on SourceForge, 4.7/5 on Trustpilot (more than 5,800 reviews). The volume itself is a data point - close to 6,000 Trustpilot reviews suggests a large consumer user base, not just enterprise buyers. Users praise the production speed and template variety. The consistent criticism across all platforms: output quality requires heavy editing, and experienced users describe it as a draft accelerator rather than a content solution. The credit system is a recurring frustration - credits don't roll over, different features consume credits at different rates, and several users report unexpected charges after cancellation.
G2 | Capterra | Trustpilot
Google Search Console
Free | monitoring
Some AI Overview appearance data is starting to show up in the Performance report - limited but growing.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.8/5 on both G2 (more than 1,000 reviews) and Capterra (more than 210 reviews). Users consistently praise the data accuracy and integration with the broader Google ecosystem. The complaints are about what's missing rather than what's broken - limited historical data, no real-time updates, and a learning curve for non-technical users. We didn't find Google engaging with individual reviewers, but with 1,000+ reviews and a 4.8 average, they don't need to.
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Included in all Ahrefs plans while in beta (starting from $129/month); full AI index tracking is an add-on ($199/index or $699/all six) | monitoring
Draws from 200M+ real user prompts (some sources report 250M+ and growing). Tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot, plus YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit mentions. Independent testing has flagged accuracy gaps between what Brand Radar reports and manual verification - the tool uses a static prompt library and timed snapshots rather than live monitoring.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.5/5 on G2 (close to 700 reviews), 4.7/5 on Capterra (close to 580 reviews), 4.5/5 on SourceForge. Trustpilot: 2.1/5. On G2 and Capterra, professional SEO users praise the backlink database, keyword research depth, and the new Brand Radar dataset. On Trustpilot, the reviews focus on billing friction - credit system confusion, account suspensions without warning, and auto-renewals that are difficult to cancel. Both sets of reviews appear consistent within their platforms. A buyer reading only one would form a completely different picture.
G2 | Capterra | Trustpilot
Semrush - AI Toolkit
Part of Semrush subscription | monitoring optimization
AI citation monitoring and content optimization within the broader Semrush suite.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.5/5 on G2 (more than 2,600 reviews), 4.6/5 on Capterra (more than 2,200 reviews), 4.5/5 on SourceForge (more than 6,000 reviews). Trustpilot: 2.1/5. A 2.4-point gap between G2 and Trustpilot for the same product. On G2, users praise the keyword research depth, competitor analysis, and the breadth of the suite. On Trustpilot, reviewers describe charges during free trials, cancellation requiring multiple confirmation steps, and refund requests denied citing internal policy. The AI toolkit features get positive mentions on professional platforms, but the Trustpilot profile is dominated by subscription friction.
G2 | Capterra | Trustpilot
Early Visibility Posture
Otterly AI
Starting from $29/month | monitoring
Similar coverage to Rankscale plus automated weekly reports and cleaner competitor comparison.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.9/5 on G2 (more than 40 reviews), G2 AEO Leader for Q1 2026, 4.8/5 on SourceForge. Early users praise the rapid iteration - from the review timelines, it appears that features requested in reviews show up in subsequent updates. The team is visibly responsive on both platforms. For a tool at $29/month, the review platform coverage is wider than tools charging three times as much.
Peec AI
Starting from €89/month | monitoring
115+ languages, tracks the same query across regions and AI engines. If your market is global, this is the only tool in the category that treats language as a first-class feature.
Review platform presence when we checked: 5.0/5 on G2 (very low volume), 4.4/5 on Capterra, positive on SourceForge. What stands out in the reviews: users praise direct Slack access to the founding team, and several mention that the multilingual tracking actually works differently across languages - not just translation, but different AI responses per region. The limitation users note: monitoring only, no optimization guidance. Based on the reviews, the team appears upfront about this scope.
Profound
Starting from $99/month (meaningful plans $399+) | monitoring
Widest range of AI engines covered, detailed citation analysis, custom reporting, strategic recommendations. G2 Leader in AEO for Winter 2026 alongside Gauge.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.6/5 on G2 (more than 300 reviews), reportedly 4.9/5 on Capterra (limited volume), mixed on SourceForge. No Trustpilot. Users praise the depth of analytics - specifically the ability to see which parts of your content triggered the citation. The consistent criticism: steep learning curve and dashboards that can feel overwhelming. Several reviewers note this is a tool that requires a dedicated person, not something a marketing generalist picks up in an afternoon. We didn't find vendor responses to reviews on any platform - including the negative ones - despite the reviews appearing to come primarily from seller invites.
Rankscale AI
Starting from ~€20/month | monitoring
Tracks citations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Copilot. Keyword-level tracking at a price point that works for startups.
Review platform presence when we checked: Listed on G2 with zero reviews. 4.8/5 on SourceForge where users praise the clean interface and actionable gap analysis - specifically the ability to see which queries competitors are cited for and you're not. No Capterra or Trustpilot. The G2 profile exists but is empty - from the outside, it looks like early-stage AI tools may be investing their review-building effort elsewhere first.
Bing Webmaster Tools - AI Performance
Free | monitoring
Launched February 10, 2026 - the newest entry on this list. Shows grounding queries - what users asked Copilot and Bing AI that led to your content being cited - along with citation counts and trend data.
Review platform presence when we checked: Modest Capterra profile (4.4/5, close to 26 reviews) and a SourceForge listing. No dedicated G2 profile. The Capterra reviews are mostly about the broader Webmaster Tools suite, not the new AI features - too early for those. We didn't find vendor responses to reviews on any platform, which appears consistent across Microsoft's developer tools.
AirOps
Custom pricing (free tier available) | optimization
Content workflow automation for teams producing at scale. More pages with consistent quality means more surface area for AI to discover and cite.
Review platform presence when we checked: 4.6/5 on G2 (more than 80 reviews). Capterra listing exists but empty. Not reviewed on SourceForge. No Trustpilot. Reviewers consistently point in the same direction: powerful once you learn it, but the learning curve is steep. Reviewers describe it as a tool that becomes indispensable after mastery - or gets abandoned before reaching that point. G2 presence is solid for a tool with custom pricing, but with empty profiles elsewhere, the visibility posture is uneven.
Minimal Visibility Posture
Gauge
Starting from $99/month (enterprise custom) | monitoring
Goes beyond tracking whether you're cited - analyzes why you're cited. GEO score benchmarking. G2 Leader in AEO (Answer Engine Optimization - G2's official category name for what many still call GEO) for Winter 2026.
Review platform presence when we checked: G2 Leader badge but minimal review volume. Not on Capterra. SourceForge listing with no reviews. No Trustpilot. G2 Leader badge with almost no reviews suggests the category (AEO) is new enough that low volume can still earn leadership positioning.
Am I On AI
Starting from $100/month (free trial available) | monitoring
Spot-checks whether AI systems mention your brand. One B2B SaaS user reported ChatGPT visibility went from 9% to 16% after following the recommendations.
Review platform presence when we checked: A SourceForge listing only - no G2, Capterra, or Trustpilot. Signals the tool is early.
Productrank.ai (by Gauge)
Free | monitoring
Instant AI visibility score for SaaS products. Enter your product, get a score. Built by the Gauge team as a free entry point to AI visibility tracking.
Review platform presence when we checked: Not listed on G2, Capterra, SourceForge, or Trustpilot.
Blastra
Service-based | presence
Yes, we put ourselves on a list we composed. SaaS listings management - helps SaaS companies establish and maintain presence across directories and review platforms.
Review platform presence when we checked: 5.0/5 on G2 (3 reviews). SourceForge profile with no reviews. No Capterra listing. And an unclaimed Trustpilot profile we didn't know existed until we did this research - a company that tells vendors to check their review platform presence, discovering its own unclaimed profile the same week it's releasing a visibility posture agent. Three reviews is not a visibility posture, it's a start. We'd love to respond to our G2 reviewers, but responding requires a paid plan we don't have - so we'll say it here: thank you. Well, nobody's perfect.
What Each Platform Shows
No single platform tells the full story. What emerged from checking all four is how they complement each other.
G2 and Capterra surface product quality - how the tool works, what users like, where it falls short functionally. The reviews tend to come from professional users evaluating the tool for its intended purpose. For established tools like SE Ranking, Ahrefs, and Semrush, this is where you find hundreds of detailed reviews with specific use cases.
Trustpilot surfaces the customer experience - billing, cancellation, support. Ahrefs: 4.5 on G2, 2.1 on Trustpilot. Semrush: 4.5 on G2, 2.1 on Trustpilot. G2 and Trustpilot are measuring different parts of the relationship. A buyer checking only one would miss the other half. For consumer-facing tools like Writesonic (more than 5,800 Trustpilot reviews), this platform carries more weight. For enterprise tools, the signal is thinner.
SourceForge is interestingly where newer AI visibility tools show up first. Rankscale, Otterly, Peec - their strongest review profiles are on SourceForge, not G2 or Capterra. The barrier to entry is lower, and for early-stage tools building initial social proof, it's often the first platform with actual reviews. G2 has actively recognized the AI visibility explosion - new award categories like Best Agentic AI Products for 2026, a new AI-focused CPTO. But SourceForge is also attracting the next generation of AI tools, with a growing body of early reviews.
Engagement patterns vary across platforms and appear to track company stage. From what's visible, SE Ranking, Otterly, and Peec respond to reviewers. We didn't find responses from Google, Microsoft, or Profound. Ahrefs and Semrush appear to engage on G2 and Capterra but not Trustpilot. Whether a vendor responds - and where - is itself a signal.
