Market (Gartner Peer Insights)
What is a Market on Gartner Peer Insights?
Gartner Peer Insights' term for what other review platforms call a "category." A market is an analyst-defined grouping of products that maps to a specific Magic Quadrant or Market Guide publication. Unlike categories on G2 or Capterra, vendors don't choose their own market — Gartner analysts define which products belong, and your product must cover at least 50% of the capabilities Gartner defines for that market.
If your product type doesn't correspond to an existing Magic Quadrant or Market Guide, there is no GPI market for you, and Gartner Peer Insights isn't an option until Gartner's analysts define one.
How Markets Differ from Categories
GPI markets behave differently from categories on other platforms in several ways:
Individual publication schedules: Each market has its own publication schedule for Voice of the Customer reports — there's no universal quarterly cycle. One market might publish in February, another in April, and schedules shift frequently (92 changes were tracked in 2025 alone).
Analyst-defined boundaries: On G2 or Capterra, vendors can request to be listed in multiple categories. On GPI, your product is placed in markets based on analyst determination of what your product actually does — and you must cover 50%+ of the defined capabilities to qualify.
Markets evolve: Markets get renamed (e.g., "Enterprise Backup and Recovery Software Solutions" became "Backup and Data Protection Platforms"), merged (two separate markets combined into one), or retired as Gartner's analyst research evolves.
Freeze periods: Each market has a freeze period 2-3 months before its VOC publication, during which new products can't be added. This is a deadline most vendors don't know exists until they've missed it.
Finding Your Market
To determine if your product has a GPI market, visit gartner.com/reviews and search for your product category. If your market exists, you'll see existing vendors and their reviews. If not, GPI isn't currently an option for your product.
Once you've identified your market, check the VOC Publication Calendar to find your market's specific review window, freeze period, and tentative publication date. Our Gartner Peer Insights guide includes decoded tables of all 58 upcoming markets with their exact deadlines.
